Police Report: July 15 – July 21

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Possession of Stolen Property     

Location: Montague Expressway at Agnew Road

An officer observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and cut off another vehicle near Rivermark Plaza. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop and the vehicle yielded on Montague Expressway near Agnew Road. Two male subjects occupied the vehicle.

Upon contact, the officer noticed an Apple computer in the suspect car with broken automotive glass shards on it. A search of the vehicle produced several high-value electronic items and a backpack with mail not belonging to either subject.

While the officer had the suspects detained, a citizen contacted Public Safety Dispatchers regarding a theft from a parked vehicle in Rivermark Plaza. The stolen items were valued at approximately $2,330. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Vehicle Theft                                   

Location:  El Camino Real and Morse Lane

An officer observed two vehicles traveling parallel to one another at a high rate of speed on San Tomas Expressway. Both vehicles had paper plates. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop.

Both vehicles fled the scene. One vehicle was later located, unoccupied, on Jones Avenue and Fowler Avenue. A check of the vehicle identification number confirmed it was reported stolen. The suspects remain at large.

Hit and Run – Felony                      

Location:  San Tomas Expressway at Homestead Road

A bicyclist was traveling westbound on Homestead Road near San Tomas Expressway. The bicyclist swung around a parked car and was sideswiped by a traveling vehicle while doing so. The truck that knocked the bicyclist off the bicycle did not stop. The victim suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries. The suspect has not been identified.

Burglary Tools                                 

Location: 1700 Block of El Camino Real

Public Safety Dispatchers were contacted regarding suspicious activity at a hotel on the 1700 block of El Camino Real. A male subject was observed entering and exiting the fire escape door of the hotel.  The subject was not a registered guest.  Officers located the subject. A Records check revealed the subject was on active probation and was also a sex registrant. A search of his person yielded burglary tools and plastic gloves. He was arrested.

Stolen Vehicle                                 

Location: 3700 Block of Miramar Way

Between 7/18/2018 at 2330 hours and 7/19/2018 at 0530 hours, an unknown suspect(s) stole the victim’s vehicle on the 3700 block of Miramar Way. The suspect(s) remains at large.

NOTE:       Two additional vehicles (Case Number #18-6528, 800 block of Pomeroy Avenue and 18-            6529, Main Street at Sahara Way) were reported stolen. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Death Investigation                        

Location:  Central Park

Officers were dispatched to a report of a subject down in the park. Upon arrival, they found the victim without a pulse and not breathing. The fire department responded and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The coroner’s officer responded and took custody of the body.

Drug Arrest  

Location:  2600 Block of The Alameda

Officers were dispatched to a report of a subject stealing milk. Upon arrival, officers located the subject and noticed he was exhibiting signs of stimulant use. The suspect was arrested for being under the influence of a narcotic and booked into county jail.

Warrant Arrest – Felony    

Location:  3900 Block of Rivermark Drive

Officers were dispatched to a report of a subject who had shoplifted from a store the day before and he was back. Officers contacted the subject and he was found to have several felony warrants. The suspect was arrested and booked into county jail.
