Letters To The Editor

Some things are obvious like a trout in the milk. Ms. Nolan flatters me immeasurably by carefully dissecting my letters and offering excellent critical comments. What is obvious to me is that Santa Clara can continue to a great place. Yes, the area needs an urban farm, but it also needs a stadium. Yes it needs a skeptical city leadership, but not a mendacious one. It needs a progressive array of alternative media sites, but not one written for a lazy buffoon under the direction of immoral munchkin. It can be a city with a myriad of dreamers, not a collection of cluttering geese. I hope and pray I was succinct. Oh, I stole sentence by Henry David Thoreau. Sorry it is like eating peanuts. I can't stop at one. Luckily, we have good people to keep us on track.

James Rowen

To Jojo Noland and her letter to the Editor Feb 6th. You are spot on regarding James Rowen and thank you for speaking up. Maybe it is time more of us spoke up then to take no action. No, I do not make sense of his idiotic comments either. But then learning he has harassed Santa Clara Officials for years and even lost a court judgement which took away his blogging, it makes no sense that a agitator from Richmond would be allowed to post comments on a weekly basis in our local newspaper. I think it is time that Santa Clara Weekly stop giving him a platform and pull that box from under him and let him go elsewhere to rant and rave. Freedom of speech does not protect one from the consequences of saying stupid and unintelligible things.

Kudos Where Kudos Are Due My thanks to Mr. Rowen’s Feb 7 2019 Letter to the Editor in the same issue as mine which was in regards to his past Letters to the Editor. Finally, one of his Letters to the Editor that is succinct (stripped of all the usual literary references, etc. I discussed in my previous Letter to the Editor) and understandable not only by an 8th grader (IMHO) but a University graduate such as myself. I believe it is important especially when publicly negatively criticizing someone’s work to also acknowledge publicly when it has changed for the better. Hence this Letter to the Editor from me. I met Mr Rowen once at City Lights Expresso years ago when he had been writing succinct and understandable Letters to The Editor and thanked him for doing so week after week and that I read every one and they were

I am mystified by your recent article touting Wilcox as an “A” level school.  It is a grave mistake to rate a school by relying on a web site like Niche.  To get the truth we should look at CA assessment scores.  The data is terrifying.  In 2018 just 63.49% of Wilcox 11th graders met CA English standards down from 75.05% in 2017.  Even scarier, in 2018 just 43.86% of Wilcox 11th graders met CA Math standards down from 47.07% in 2017.  This is not “A” level performance.   The facts prove Wilcox is failing a significant portion of our children and is actually getting worse.  Far too many students graduating from Wilcox do not have even minimum level English or Math skills.  As parents and taxpayers we need to demand much more from our public schools.

Sally Brett

Thank You, Jojo Noland for your letter to the editor.  I too was concerned I was the only person who learned nothing from Mr. Rowen’s rambling letters.  When one is limited to 125 words to make a point it is always best to apply one of the basic rules of persuasion/instruction, known best as “K.I.S.S”.

Does Lisa Gillmor own Public Property Advisors? No, Gary Gillmor “The Happy Warrior,” does. On May 17, 1994, the FPPC wrote a letter to Mike Downey. They said the fees Gillmor collected from Santa Clara Unified did not represent a conflict on matters before the city council In Rowen vs. Santa Clara Unified, the court ruled that PPA was a firm consultating with the district not employed by the district, In 1977, Gary Gillmor voluntarily asked the FPPC whether his real estate business owned part of the Franklin Mall. The FPPC ruled Gary is the sole investor of the real estate business which owns Public Property Advisors. Gary is no Donald Trump. He combs his hair, but does not come over it. Lisa is not a political dragon lady, she is more like Rockford’s Right On Ruth played by Mary Frann. There is no conflict.
