A man was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot on March 31 at the Capri Motel, 2465 East El Camino Real near San Tomas Expressway. A witness at the motel called the police at 7:47 p.m.. The motel was briefly evacuated while Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) officers investigated and interviewed witnesses.

SCPD Lt. Dan Moreno, public information officer, said on Monday afternoon that the victim’s condition stabilized and was expected to survive.

According to a motel worker, the shooting took place in room 51 on the second floor of the two-story, L-shaped motel, which is sandwiched between two other motels on El Camino Real. As of Monday the suspect, who reportedly fled in a vehicle after the shooting, had not yet been apprehended.

Moreno said that detectives are following up on leads from witnesses and the surveillance cameras and they’re looking for additional witnesses.
