Wilcox Boys Basketball Keeps Perfect
The Wilcox Chargers (4-0) continued their perfect start to the season with a 69-48 win over Summit Prep on Dec. 13. They host Leigh on Dec. 18.

Lady Bruins Basketball Claims Third Place in Tip-Off Classic
The Bruins (5-1) claimed third place in their 5th Annual Tip-Off Classic held Dec. 10 through 14 at Santa Clara High School. They opened the tournament with a 48-32 win over Harker on Dec. 11 led by senior Almira (Mickie) Ferrer with 14 points while senior Samantha Rudd contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. The Bruins then suffered their first loss of the season, a 46-20 loss to Mercy-San Francisco on Dec. 12. Ferrer and senior Stephanie Rudd each scored five points in the game, in which the team was only 4-for-16 on free throw attempts. The Bruins claimed the third place championship with a 32-29 win over Newark Memorial on Dec. 14. Sa. Rudd scored 14 points and added nine rebounds while Ferrer scored nine points. The Bruins played at Andrew Hill on Dec. 17 after press time and host Yerba Beuna on Dec. 19.

Lady Chargers Basketball Continues Stellar Season; Claims First Loss
The Chargers (5-1) continue a strong start to the season, with two wins in the Amador Valley tournament, in which they claimed second in the tournament after suffering their first loss of the season. The Chargers defeated Homestead 51-29 on Dec. 10 then bested Berkeley (5-1) 62-45 on Dec. 12. Senior Joeseta Fatuesi led the team with 27 points while senior Caitlin Brown added 15 and junior D’Airrien Jackson added 10. The Chargers were defeated 58-51 by Deer Valley on Dec. 14 in the tournament championship. Fatuesi scored 15 in the loss while Jackson scored 13.

The Chargers hosted Piedmont Hills on Dec. 17 after press time and participate in the Del Mar tournament starting Dec. 26 when they play San Benito.

Lady Chargers Soccer Picks Up a Win and Pair of Ties
The Chargers (2-1-3) picked up a 5-0 win over Harker on Dec. 10 followed by a scoreless tie at Lincoln on Dec. 12 and a 1-1 tie against Castilleja on Dec. 14. They hosted Notre Dame after press time on Dec. 17 and host South San Francisco on Dec. 19.

Chargers, Bruins Wrestlers Fare Well at 4th Annual Webber Lawson Tournament
The Wilcox Chargers claimed second place of 36 teams in the 4th Annual Webber Lawson Tournament at Fremont High School on Dec. 14. Senior Mark Nguyen claimed the 106-pound championship as the No. 1 seed, dominating the competition, claiming a 12-3 decision, first-round pin fall, 17-0 technical fall and 3-0 decision. Junior Marques Jackson claimed sixth place at 113. Senior Brandon Algonoy claimed sixth at 120-pounds, going 3-2. Sophomore Vinnie Santiago claimed third place at 126-pounds, with a 12-3 major decision, 9-6 decision, 5-1 loss and a 6-5 decision. Senior Eliseo Martinez claimed fourth place at 138-pounds, with a first-round pin, a 12-4 major decision and a pin fall loss. Senior Josh Robinson claimed fourth place at 152-pounds with an 11-1 major decision, pin, 5-0 decision and a loss. Senior Cody Barraclough claimed fourth at 160-pounds, with a 15-5 decision, pin and two losses. Sophomore Gabe Fuentes claimed fourth at 170-pounds with 10-3 and 8-3 decisions, and two losses. Senior Jonathan Pohahau claimed third at 285 pounds, with a pin fall win, 10-5 and 7-1 decision triumphs and a 5-1 loss.

The Bruins claimed 17th overall, sending only eight wrestlers. Senior Elvin Labucay claimed fourth at 120-pound weight class with an 11-3 major decision, an 8-4 decision, pin fall loss and 6-5 decision loss. Junior Esriel Verdusco claimed fifth at 113-pounds, going 4-0 after losing his opening bout. He claimed an 8-2 decision, 7-0 decision and two second-round pin fall victories. Senior Ricardo Duenas claimed fifth at 145-pounds, claiming 8-2 and 11-5 decisions and a first-round pin. Senior Ibrihim Elsakka claimed the consolation championship at 182-pounds after losing his first bout. He claimed 4-2 and 7-2 decisions and a pin.

St. Lawrence Girls Basketball Loses Three Times
The Celtics lost 47-17 to Summit Prep on Dec. 10, Kriby Prep 48-21 on Dec. 12 and University Prep Academy 45-26 on Dec. 13. Senior Jordan Gips was the leading scorer in all three games with 15, 11, and 18 points. Senior Kayla Alvarado had seven points in the loss to University Prep Academy. The girls play in a PSAL League Contest against KIPP-San Jose Collegiate on Dec. 19.

St. Lawrence Boys Basketball Wins Twice, Loses Once
St. Lawrence beat Summit Prep 46-42 on Dec. 10 with junior Aleq Queja scoring 15 and senior Zach San Diego 14 points. The Celtics then defeated Kirby Prep 49-31 on Dec. 12. Queja and San Diego each had 14 points in the win, with junior Joseph Wang adding 10. On Dec. 13, University Prep beat St. Lawrence 61-49. San Diego led the team with 26 points. The boys play in a PSAL League Contest against KIPP-San Jose Collegiate on Dec. 19.

Santa Clara University Men’s Basketball Wins
The Broncos defeated La Sierra 97-61 on Dec. 14. Freshman Jared Brownridge made seven three-point baskets while scoring 24 points and junior Julian Clarke scored a career-best 13 points in the win. Santa Clara shot 48.4 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. The team collected 42 rebounds, 11 steals, 23 assists and five blocks. SCU hosts Radford on Dec. 16 (after press time) and Sacred Heart on Dec. 18.

Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball Wins
SCU beat Utah Valley 64-61 on Dec. 14. Redshirt senior Ruta Zurauskyte led the offense with 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, followed by freshman Jo Paine with 11 points and five rebounds. The Broncos shot 44 percent and collected 36 rebounds, 16 assists, five blocks and 12 steals. Santa Clara hosts UC Davis on Dec. 18 and Georgia State on Dec. 20.
