The Santa Clara Weekly has published three news stories concerning the lawsuit filed against Mayor Gillmor that claims inadequate financial disclosure on her part. None of the three has identified who is paying the plaintiff’s lawyers, McManis Faulkner Law. Is it Brian Exline, the Santa Clara University law school student who filed the suit? Or is the lawsuit being financed by a third party with self-serving motives?
The timing of the lawsuit – 13 days before the elections – coupled with its same-day coverage by the Mercury News, smells of putrid politics. Following the money back to its source may reveal a story as big as or bigger than the actual lawsuit.
