It’s no secret why public employee unions want to control the elected officials who vote on their contracts-these elected officials negotiate with the unions behind closed doors where the voters can’t see how the unions’ political support has influenced the politicians’ decisions. The union leadership, however, is also behind the closed doors, and they know when they are getting their money’s worth.
As our City and School district tackle the massive public employee unfunded pension tsunami as well as demands for higher pay, I want to be sure my representatives in the room will be independent voices in the face of union demands. That’s why I’m supporting Deborah Bress, Kevin Park, and Karen Hardy for City Council and Christine Koltermann and Michael Helms for school board. These five candidates will be free from union control and will make fiscally responsible decisions that put the needs of the community first.
