Santa Clara Police Report: August 11 – 17

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Drug Possession

Location: El Camino Real and Bowe Avenue

While driving on El Camino Real, an officer observed two subjects, one male and one female, in a vehicle having an argument. The officer pulled alongside the male driver and observed he was not wearing a seat belt. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop.

Upon contact, both subjects displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. A Records check revealed the male subject was out on bail and the female subject had a suspended driver’s license. A search of the vehicle yielded a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and multiple items of personal identifying information not belonging to either subject including credit cards, personal checks and social security cards.

Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Burglary – Attempted

Location:  3500 Block of Granada Avenue

Officers responded to the 3500 block of Granada Avenue on the report of an interrupted residential burglary.

An unknown suspect(s) removed the window screen of a first floor apartment and fled northbound when the homeowner confronted the suspect(s). Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect(s).

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Location:  3300 Block of Benton Street

Public Safety Dispatchers received multiple calls regarding two males fighting in the area of Benton Street and Pomeroy Avenue. Several witnesses indicated one subject was armed with a bat.

The Santa Clara Fire Department responded as well. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. After being medically cleared, the suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

NOTE: After a combined 57 years of service to the City of Santa Clara, Captain Kurt Clarke and Lieutenant Alan Wolf retired from the Santa Clara Police Department.

Mayor Gillmor, Council Member O’Neill, retirees, current employees and family members gathered at the Police Building to celebrate the retirements of these well-respected members of the management team. Chief Sellers congratulated Captain Clarke and Lieutenant Wolf for their hard work, dedication, service and sacrifice. The Mayor presented a Proclamation on behalf of the city as well as a retirement gift. Public Safety Dispatchers delivered their final radio call of their career.

Warrant Arrest – Felony

Location:  1900 Block of El Camino Real

An officer observed a male subject jaywalk across the 1900 block of El Camino Real.

Upon contact, the officer conducted a Records Check. It revealed the subject had a felony warrant and he was on searchable probation. A search of his person yielded drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

While in custody at the jail, the subject tensed up, attempted to kick the officer and tried to escape. Correctional officers secured the arrestee in shackles.

Suspicious Circumstances

Location:  600 Block of Argus Way

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call stating a shooting had occurred.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Argus Way with an armored rescue vehicle. By use of a public address system, the only two occupants inside the residence came out and were visibly shaken up as a result of the police presence. Through investigation, it was determined this was a swatting call. The case has been forwarded to the Investigations Division for follow-up.

Location: 1600 Block of Hope Drive

Between 1100 and 1300 hours, an unknown subject(s) stole a golf cart from the 1600 block of Hope Drive. There are no suspect(s) at this time.

Missing Person

Location:  2800 Block of Millar Avenue

An 81-year old female with cognitive decline concerns was reported missing from the 2800 block of Millar Avenue. In addition to medical concerns, it was well over 90 degrees at the time of disappearance. The female was found safe in Mountain View and transported back to her family in good health.

Petty Theft

Location: 2000 Block of El Camino Real

A Loss Prevention Specialist detained a juvenile subject for shoplifting a tote bag and liquor valued at $56. A Juvenile Contact Report was processed and the juvenile was released to their parent.
