Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested

CASE NUMBER: 11-4187
INCIDENT: Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested
DATE: Wednesday, April 21, 2011 11:25 AM
LOCATION: 3600 Block of Buckley Street, Santa Clara
DEFENDANTS: Miguel Angel Gomez, 33 years old, San Jose resident

On the above date and time, Santa Clara Police Officers responded to the 3600 block of Buckley Street after a 9-1-1 caller reported an in-progress residential burglary. The caller included a suspect description and said a witness was chasing the fleeing male suspect on foot. Officers arrived on scene and conducted an area search for the suspect. Gomez was located nearby. Although he had altered his clothing, Gomez was positively identified as the burglar by the victim and witnesses.

Several citizens either observed the burglary or the foot chase or spotted the suspect’s attempt to disguise himself to evade detection. Their roles were very important in this investigation and the assistance they provided to the responding officers was key in the arrest of Gomez. Santa Clara Police Detectives recovered several stolen items connecting Gomez to this burglary and at least one previous case. Investigators will attempt to determine if Gomez is responsible for any additional burglaries.

This is a noteworthy example of how residents help protect each other simply by staying vigilant and knowing their neighbors. Without the swift actions of several citizens, Gomez’s arrest may have been more difficult. Gomez was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for several felony violations of the California Penal Code, including burglary (PC 459) and possession of stolen property (PC 496.) He is scheduled for arraignment on Friday, April 22nd in Santa Clara County Superior Court. The case has referred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
