Police Blotter

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Vehicle Theft

Location: 2200 Block of Bray Avenue
An unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a vehicle, disabled the alarm and tried to hotwire the vehicle. The suspect(s) were unsuccessful and fled the scene. Nothing was taken from the vehicle and the suspect(s) remain at large.

NOTE: At 0004 hours, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office broadcasted a be-on-the-lookout announcement for a reckless driver of a stolen vehicle in the area of Kiely Boulevard and Benton Street.

A few minutes later, SCPD personnel noticed Star 1 orbiting in the area of El Camino Real and Main Street as well as several Santa Clara County Deputy vehicles in the area.

SCPD located the unoccupied vehicle and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office conducted their investigation.

Drug Arrest

Location: El Camino Real and Pierce Street
An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop at El Camino Real and Pierce Street because only one of the suspect vehicle’s brake lights was illuminated. A Records check revealed the male suspect’s driver’s license was suspended with good service and he was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation.

Vehicle Theft

Location: 2700 Block of De La Cruz Boulevard
At approximately 0342 hours, a theft of seven vehicles occurred at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car on the 2700 block of De La Cruz Boulevard. According to witnesses, a group of approximately eight males entered the locked storage lot, where vehicles were stored with the keys inside. As the suspects were removing the vehicles from the parking lot they were interrupted by on-site security guards. The suspects exited the lot by ramming the gate with one of the stolen vehicles.

Five of the vehicles have been recovered; two of the vehicles remain outstanding. None of the suspects have been identified and they remain at large.

Stolen Vehicle

Location: Lafayette Street and Eisenhower Drive
An officer observed a vehicle with its headlamps off on Lafayette Street near Clyde Avenue. The suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, however, the officer was able to catch up with the vehicle at Agnew Road. The officer informed Public Safety Dispatchers of the license plate number and learned the vehicle was stolen out of the City of Santa Clara. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop. The male driver immediately attempted to make a right turn onto Eisenhower Drive. The suspect failed to negotiate the turn and collided with a traffic signal on the northeast corner of the intersection. The suspect fled the vehicle on foot despite officer’s commands to stop. Officers set up a perimeter and started a yard-to-yard search of the area. Approximately two hours later, officers located the suspect on the roof of a residence on the 4600 block of Armour Drive. The suspect continued to defy officer’s demands, jumped off the roof and started jumping fences going eastbound. After a few minutes, he was again spotted on top of a roof on the 4600 block of Burke Drive. This time, officers were able to set a tight perimeter around the target house and take the suspect into custody.

Drunk in Public

Location: 500 Block of Washington Street
An officer responded to the 500 block of Washington Street on the report of a loud party. Upon arrival, the officer asked to speak with one of the residents. The male suspect displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol, was under 21 years of age and provided the officer with an identification card that belonged to his brother (who was over 21 years of age). The suspect was arrested for drunk in public and transported to the temporary holding facility.

NOTE: A female pedestrian was struck by a southbound train on the railroad tracks at the Santa Clara station. There were no witnesses and the engineer of the train was unaware anyone had been struck. SCPD secured the scene until members of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office could process the scene.

NOTE: The Santa Clara County Traffic Enforcement day was conducted in the City of Milpitas today. SCPD sent two Sergeants and five motorcycle officers to work with the other agencies from 0700-1100 hours. SCPD wrote 49 tickets and towed one car for driving on a suspended license.

Robbery

Location: 2700 Block of Homestead Road
Two suspects, one male and one female, went into Safeway on the 2700 block of Homestead Road, selected bottles of alcohol and placed them in the female’s backpack. The suspects exited the store without paying for the items.Safeway security officers confronted the suspects and the male suspect hit one of the security guards in the head with a liquor bottle causing minor injuries. The suspects fled the scene.

Incoming officers located the female suspect and took her into custody. Officers located the identification card of the male suspect and a hotel receipt in her backpack. Approximately one hour later, the officers went to the Quality Inn and located the male suspect. Both suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

Vehicle Theft

Location: 2500 Block of Bowers Avenue
An officer responded to the 2500 block of Bowers Avenue on the report of a stolen vehicle. The reporting party had loaned her vehicle to a handy man in the past however he had taken it today without asking. When the victim contacted the suspect, he refused to return the vehicle.

The male suspect was spotted driving the vehicle on southbound Bowers Avenue. He was stopped and taken into custody without incident. A Records check revealed he had a $20,000 warrant for his arrest. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Package Theft

Location: 100 Block of Kerry Drive
A light blue 1980’s Jeep Wrangler with a black top, being driven by a male subject stopped in front of a victim’s home on the 100 block of Kerry Drive. The passenger exited and took two packages from the front porch. The passenger was contacted by a neighbor, but he got into the vehicle and fled the area with the packages. The victim was contacted and the contents of the packages were identified. The suspects remain at large.

Driving Under the Influence

Location: Central Expressway and Lawrence Expressway
Officers responded to the report of a solo vehicle collision at Central Expressway and Lawrence Expressway. The male driver veered off the road and crashed into a redwood tree. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was transported to a local hospital for life threatening injuries.
