Milestones – Daniel Chung is … – Opinion

Miles H Barber, Publisher

Publisher Miles Barber outlines why voters should support Daniel Chung over Jeff Rosen in this year's District Attorney's race.

Daniel Chung is running for District Attorney. He has about 25 good reasons why voters support him. One reason is that Daniel Chung could probably indict current D.A., Jeff Rosen, for a history of official misconduct.

Rosen has been nothing more than a controversial, politically driven District Attorney. He has proven to be inadequate, turning his office into his campaign headquarters, deploying the law to the benefit of his political pals, wrongfully interpreting law and punishing openly those who challenge him. And if that’s not enough, he’s trying to get his hands on bond money that voters approved for county health care.

Daniel Chung has served as an assistant District Attorney for years. His background, education, and stellar past performance make him the most desirable choice.

It wasn’t all easy. His dad committed suicide while he was still a child. He understands the difficulty of single-parent family issues.

Chung also understands the importance of choice. He could have dropped out and been just another delinquent. However, his mother instilled the importance of hard work, finish what you start, learn well and make it right. These words inspired him to do his best.

Facing incredible odds, Chung pushed ahead with his mother’s encouragement and was admitted to Harvard University. Following graduation, Chung applied to Columbia Law School and received his law degree.

Chung has actively served his community, handling over a thousand criminal and civil cases. He has openly opposed current District Attorney Jeff Rosen because Rosen has twisted and abused the law.

Daniel Chung is the only prosecuting attorney in Santa Clara County who has challenged District Attorney Jeff Rosen’s illegal decisions on multiple occasions and won every time.

This information alone should tell you Jeff Rosen should not be our Santa Clara County District Attorney.

Daniel Chung has earned the respect of his peers and the courts. Chung is the right person for Santa Clara County District Attorney.

Jeff Rosen has used his personal “Stay Out of Jail” card too long and too many times. Let’s return integrity to the District Attorney’s Office.  Vote for Daniel Chung for Santa Clara County District Attorney.

  1. Hard to respect an opinion piece that is no different from what ONE candidate says about themselves and their opponent. C’mon now. Exercise some editorial standards and don’t act as the mouthpiece for ONE candidate. Nothing is as black and white in politics as you seem to assume here. Not even a token “though Chung lacks the experience of Rosen” or even much information about what Chung’s track record as an ADA actually looks like.

This is a poorly written editorial opinion piece that reads more like a screed.

    • Thank you, Mr Gleit, if that is your real name. Please note that my column is an opinion column based on observation, actions, behavior and factual incidents. I do not change the facts. What we have as a District Attorney is what we see, and what we see is clearly not in the interest of our residents.

    • Jeff Rosen is sex trafficking my kids. I have posted many of the details here.

    • Jeff Rosen caters to all of his friends and treats the law as if it is completely arbitrary.
      …;
Valerie Houghton wants Jeff Rosen to conceal the sexual abuse of my kids. He doesn’t care what that means for my kids. All he cares about is appeasing his political supporters. He has done this to many other children.

  2. If the writer included “though Chung lacks the experience of Rosen,” the article would be even more complimentary to Chung. No one wants our prosecutors to be corrupt, unethical or immoral.

  3. Daniel Chung tried to protect my kids from being sexually abused. He did this against Jeff Rosen’s wishes. I believe that this is why he was fired. None of the reasons that Rosen provides add up.

  4. If anyone is considering voting for Jeff Rosen, I urge you to read the State Bar complaint that I appealed.

  5. You can watch on of the many times that I begged Jeff Rosen to refer my kids to the Child Advocacy Center. (He is seated 2nd from left in charge of CAC.)

What kind of district attorney doesn’t care about children getting raped? What kind of a district attorney files charges against a protective parent, then allows the person sex trafficking the kids to influence the proceedings by assaulting the protective parent?

Jeff Rosen is turning Santa Clara County into the County of Sodom and Gomorrah.

  6. If Jeff Rosen win this election, there will likely not be another contested one with Rosen. Who will run against him? Who will want to face retaliation, being fired, be prosecuted, or even be subjected to violence.

If he gets re-elected, he will be able to be District Attorney for as long as he chooses. It would be better to leave Santa Clara County at that point.

  7. Just see what Jeff Rosen did to James Sibley. Mr. Sibley is a straight-laced prosecutor. He called out Rosen for altering time sheets to gift thousands of hours of free time to his favorite lawyers. Sibley was demoted because of his complaint.

“What Jeff [Rosen] is doing is wrong and somebody needed to stand up and actually call him on it,” Sibley said in an interview, Wednesday.
    …..
“The atmosphere within the DA’s office over the last two years is essentially a culture of fear,” Sibley said. “You either go with what the administration is planning or you are going to pay the price for it.”

  8. District Attorney Jeff Rosen has increasingly become a troubling symbol of selective justice in Santa Clara County. His campaign slogan, “Safety and Justice for All,” rings hollow to many residents who see inconsistent prosecutions, questionable priorities, and political favoritism coming from his office. Rosen has aligned himself with controversial figures over the years, including former Congressman Eric Swalwell, whose endorsement once prominently appeared on Rosen’s campaign website before quietly disappearing. The endorsement read: “As a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I understand that the threats facing our nation can come from both external and internal sources. That is why we need fierce defenders of the rule of law and judicial independence leaders like District Attorney Jeff Rosen. I am proud to endorse his reelection and to stand with him in the fight to protect our constitution.” Rosen’s decision to later remove the endorsement raises serious questions about his judgment and the company he keeps.
The inconsistency becomes even more apparent when examining recent prosecutions handled by Rosen’s office. Former Santa Clara County correctional deputy Francisco Izayas Castillo was convicted of a misdemeanor battery after prosecutors argued he helped facilitate an inmate assault in county jail and participated in covering it up, despite not physically attacking the victim himself. According to Rosen’s office, Castillo’s “blessing and aid” were enough to justify criminal liability. Yet the charge pursued was only a misdemeanor. The lead prosecutor in that case was Jason Malinsky — the same prosecutor who aggressively pursued felony perjury and corruption charges against former Santa Clara Councilmember Anthony Becker.
That contrast is difficult to ignore. In Becker’s case, Rosen’s office sought felony convictions tied to leaking a lying report and allegedly lying about it. https://www.svvoice.com/letters/letter-to-the-editor-criminal-whistleblower-witness-or-patsy-part-1-of-2/. Meanwhile, in Castillo’s case, conduct connected to an actual physical assault inside a jail resulted in misdemeanor treatment and a 45-day sentence. Becker ultimately received 40 days in jail. The disparity leaves many questioning how Rosen’s office determines what qualifies as corruption, what deserves felony treatment, and whether political considerations influence those decisions.
Many others also point to Rosen’s aggressive prosecution of Stanford student protesters while overlooking allegations involving politically connected local officials like Kathy Watanabe and Lisa Gillmor. Justice should be applied consistently, not selectively.
Santa Clara County voters should take a close look at this record before the next election. For many residents, the pattern reflects not equal justice under the law, but a system driven by optics, alliances, and convenience rather than fairness and ethics.https://www.svvoice.com/letters/letter-to-the-editor-we-dont-need-no-stinking-ethics/, https://www.svvoice.com/letters/demand-resignations-in-the-valley-of-the-crooked-delight/
Daniel Chung is our only hope, and we cannot have another 4 years of Jeff Rosen’s rule as a corrupted prosecutor.
