Making a Difference

Nor*Cal Elite All-Stars (NCE) presented a $750 check to representatives from O’Connor Hospital’s Oncology Department on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. The funds were raised through NCE’s “Change for Change” breast cancer awareness challenge. A whopping $544 of the money collected consisted of loose change contributed by the over 150 athletes from Nor*Cal Elite’s competitive cheerleading program. After the unexpected loss of program co-founder Donna Mills this past September, NCE was inspired to continue Mills’ life of service to others. Co-founder Rachel Jobe said, “The strongest part of an athlete is their heart. We truly believe that the only way to raise champions is to start from the inside out. This includes a commitment to community involvement.” NCE cheerleaders come from all over the Bay Area, including San Jose, Morgan Hill, Pleasanton, Santa Clara, Fremont, Santa Cruz, Gilroy, Los Banos and Sunnyvale. The athletes are excited about making an impact in their Northern California communities.
