Mayor Lisa Gillmor, in her recent advertisement sponsored by the “Santa Clara POA PAC,” urged me to “re-elect” Kathy Watanabe to the City Council. Ms. Watanabe was appointed to the Council, not elected, so she cannot possibly be re-elected. This distinction ought to be clear to Ms. Gillmor, as she herself was appointed to be Mayor, not elected.
Whatever the qualifications of Mrs. Watanabe, being an elected member of the Council is not one of them. Seat Six is an open seat. It is not the property of Kathy Watanabe or Lisa Gillmor. Personally, I support Suds Jain. He is the best candidate.
