Kicking off the show with an original tune, “Smiles of My Friends,” the Gary Gates Band played the first installment of the Sunday afternoon Concerts in the Park series on July 6. The band, a newcomer to the Central Park Pavilion stage, played original music as well as spins on some well-known songs like Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.” Visit www.garygatesband.com for more information.
Sponsored by the city’s Cultural Commission, the free concerts are on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Santa Clara’s Central Park, 909 Kiely Blvd. Next week, Concerts in the Park welcomes Bsides – who will play 1960s rock, R&B and soul – to the stage.
