Concerts in the Park Coming Soon

It’s summer and time for barbeques, floppy hats, sunscreen and the City of Santa Clara’s annual Concerts in the Park series at Central Park.

This year, the nine part series mixes upbeat styles with classical sounds and kicks off on Wednesday, June 22 with Dave Crimmen who will bring his Rockabilly riffs and fun music to start the concerts off with a bang.

The following week, Mission City Opera will headline the festivities to bring their dramatic theater and music to the stage.

Classic rock sounds are always a pleaser and on July 6, The Sparkletones will take everyone back to the fabulous fifties with songs like Elvis Presley’s Blue Suede Shoes and Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode.

On July 17, the series slows it down with the Mission City College orchestra, but high-energy shows resume the following week with San Jose-based Sidesaddle & Co.’s Bluegrass offerings.

One week later, on July 31, take a trip to the Caribbean with Shabang! Steel Drumb Band and their Calypso, Reggae, Zouk and Soca styles of music.

If rock music is a favorite, check out Cool Under Pressure on August 7 and hear songs like U2’s Mysterious Ways, The Offspring’s Come Out and Play, Wild Cherry’s Play That Funky Music White Boy and KC & The Sunshine Band’s That’s the Way.

The Boy Scout band, Crew 357, comes to the park on August 14, and the shows come to a close August 21 with 17-piece Ballroom dance orchestra The LyraTones who will play songs from big band and jazz favorites like Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

Pick a week, or see all nine shows. Either way, there will be something for everyone to enjoy this summer.

The first three Concerts in the Park will be on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The following six shows will be on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Central Park is at 909 Kiely Blvd. in Santa Clara.
