Big Lunar New Year Celebration Kicks Off Super Bowl LX Week in Santa Clara

Diane Andrews

Santa Clara will host a Lunar New Year celebration in Commerce Plaza on Jan. 31 & Feb. 1 as part of its Super Bowl LX festivities.

Thirty thousand celebrants are expected to usher in the Year of the Fire Horse at Silicon Valley’s biggest—and first of the season—Lunar New Year celebration, taking place in Santa Clara on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, the weekend before Super Bowl Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.

The 2026 Silicon Valley Lunar New Year Together and Night Market will light up downtown at 900 Lafayette St., in Commerce Plaza, across from Santa Clara University, from noon to 9 p.m. both days.

The celebration features lion and dragon dancers and more than 200 live, performing artists representing many cultures—from Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Japanese, Cambodian, and Mongolian to Filipino and Portuguese. Some 250 vendors, both local and from out of state, will offer food, arts, and crafts. There are cultural experiences such as calligraphy and inflatable play areas for children.

“We want to build bonds across our entire community [and] knowing one another is key to the success of all our communities,” said Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor. “Culture is one of the most important things for building those community bonds because we all enjoy music, dance, and art. We all like good food. And we love to celebrate!”

2026 Silicon Valley Lunar New Year Together is a partner-led event rather than one organized by the City of Santa Clara, which is a co-sponsor. Event organizers are Silicon Valley Community Media (the nonprofit arm of the Chinese-American Ding Ding TV) with O.M.G Entertainment (a Bay Area marketing and event planning company) as well as Vietnamese in San Jose and the Korean American Federation in Silicon Valley.

“While often associated primarily with China, the Lunar New Year festival belongs to a global community,” said festival committee member Joel Wong, pointing out that nearly two billion people—a quarter of the world—celebrate the Lunar New Year, which is Feb. 17 through March 3 this year.

“It [the festival] is a reminder that no matter where we are, we all share the desire for a fresh start, the warmth of family, and the hope that the coming year will be better than the last,” said Wong.
