Remembering Santa Clara resident Beyla McIntosh, who passed away on May 29 at the age of 77.

Beyla McIntosh passed away quietly in her home on May 29, 2025 at the age of 77. She is survived by her spouse of 54 years, Rex McIntosh, her siblings Rebeca and Cipriano, son William, daughter Kathryn, and son Timothy, and five grandchildren Emma, Oliver, Noah, Billy and Elizabeth.

She is preceded in death by her youngest daughter Elizabeth, her siblings Isabel, Idel “Gringo,” Salomon, and Moises, and her parents Idel and Esther Vexler. Beyla was born in Piura, Peru on June 13, 1947 – the youngest of seven siblings. She moved to the United States when she was 17 years old and attended Whittier College in Southern California, then University of San Francisco.

While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, she met her husband Rex. They married in 1970. She was a dedicated mother, aunt, and grandmother. She nurtured children throughout her life in her family, as a volunteer at her children’s school, through a strong presence in the school community and after-school activities. She worked in local schools as a teacher assistant and health aid, mothering many children as her calling.

She was a grandmother extraordinaire, attending many soccer games, making regular visits, joyfully playing games or any child activities with such passion. She fiercely loved and celebrated life, spending days at the ocean with loved ones, and reminiscing about good times with lifelong friends in Peru.
