Ambassadors and Déjà Vu Bands Fundraiser

On Thursday night, January 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., treat yourself to great music for a good cause. At the Santa Clara High School Theater, the Ambassadors and Déjà Vu bands will give a performance to raise money for the Ambassador’s musical tour to Spain and Portugal this summer. Coimbra, Portugal, Santa Clara’s Sister City, is part of the tour.

The evening promises to be fun! For a mere $10, you will be entertained with bands that play with professional quality. There will be a silent auction, a raffle for a weekend stay at a beach house right on the water in Aptos, and a bake sale. One hundred per cent of the funds from the tickets will go towards the trip’s general fund. Checks for donations should be made out to Buchser Middle School Association, which is a Federal non-profit organization, so donations are tax-deductible. Tickets may be ordered online at

The Ambassadors is a symphonic concert band that is made up mostly of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. They play classical and pops music. This is an extracurricular band, consisting of sixth to twelfth grade music students from Buchser Middle School, other Santa Clara Unified School District schools and the surrounding community, according to the website. The members represented the City of Santa Clara in 2008 in a tour of Japan. (

Déjà Vu is a jazz band consisting of brass, woodwinds, and a rhythm section. They play big band jazz and rock n roll. This extracurricular band consists of some eighth graders and alumni of Buchser Music.

David Ladd Anderson, Musical Director, says: “When we started planning this tour our economy was in much better shape. Unfortunately, it is not as good today and even with much work and fundraising effort, many of our young musicians cannot afford to go on this trip with us. To me, this is a tragedy as they will have to miss this wonderful educational opportunity and the band will not sound as good as it could without these young, dedicated musicians.”

The Santa Clara High School Theater is at 3000 Benton Street in Santa Clara.
