World War II Brides – Wednesday, September 7th, 1-4pm: Come and see bridal gowns worn by women who married American soldiers fighting overseas and moved to the U.S. following the war. The bridal gowns will be on display from 1-4pm in the Redwood Room at Central Park Library: 2635 Homestead Road, Santa Clara. Beverly Sollars, who herself is a child of a War Bride marriage, is now the World War II Display Coordinator and will give a short talk at 1:30pm.
Emergency Preparedness Training- Tuesday, August 30th, 6-9pm: Most experts agree that the Bay Area is at high risk for disasters. The Santa Clara Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program provides 21 hours of classroom and hands-on training to help you become prepared for such a disaster. Class schedule is as follows: Tuesday, August 30th, 6-9pm Emergency Preparedness; Thursday, September 1st, 6-9pm Fire Extinguishers, Utilities, Hazmat; Tuesday, September 6th, 6-9pm Disaster Medicine Part 1; Thursday, September 8th, 6-9pm Disaster Medicine Part 2; Tuesday, September 13th, 6-9pm Search and Rescue; and Saturday, September 17th, 9am-4pm Disaster Stimulation, Psychology, Terrorism. All classes will be held at the Santa Clara Fire Department Training Center at 1900 Walsh Avenue, Santa Clara. A fee of $25 per person is required to cover class materials.
