Tobacco free in the United States – Letter to the Editor

Although smoking is harmful to everyone’s health, many people keep smoking. In the United States, laws do not restrict smoking in workplaces and public places at a federal level. People in 22 states of the country are still under the threat of secondhand smoke in public areas. Those of us who do not smoke, especially children, cannot wait for the voluntary goodwill of smokers to quit smoking. Indeed, non-smokers should request the government to deploy a nationwide ban on smoking in public. We have to remember that the tobacco industry earns a huge profit every year, but customers pay in return not only with the money from their pockets but also with lung cancer and other lung-related illnesses. The consequences of smoking do not stop with the smokers. Those close to the smokers may also pay a heavy price.
