The Santa Clara County Supervisors will soon be debating whether or not San Jose should remain a Sanctuary City. San Jose will not solve the problem of dangerous people doing very bad things and it will put many innocent members of our community at serious risk by increasing the access ICE has to our immigrant neighbors.
Additionally, the behavior of ICE agents in Silicon Valley is extremely problematic. Citizens who participate in the RRN here, to monitor ICE, are doing so because of so many reported violations of the law, from ICE agents claiming to be police (which puts our own police force at a disadvantage when working in our immigrant communities) to taking actual US citizens into custody. Their record protecting children separated from their families is horrific.
If we support ICE in these actions, we are complicit in the very acts that violate our values.
