The closing of Golden Mushroom restaurant is truly sad. God Bless the owners for decades of fantastic service. It served as a place for dozens of Santa Clara High School Panthers would go and eat pizza after watching the Panthers lose another football game. It had a payphone that served as vehicle for immature phone calls from teenage boys like myself. Years later, Golden Mushroom offered an excellent, inexpensive pasta dish that was on par with Original Joe’s for a tenth of the price. Many people, city leaders and city workers enjoyed pizza and televised sporting events from a seat in Golden Mushroom. It served as Santa Clara’s best place for pizza, as a slice of Golden Mushroom pizza was far better than New York’s and it was place proud to have a Santa Clara zip code. All the best.
