Letter from James Rowen

I hope I can spend a moment to talk about Sue Lasher.  When, as a city commissioner, I was involved in a mess created by my own stupidity, I asked Sue if I should resign, and she said, “You do that, and I will vote to put you back on.  No one who is helping the city quits on my watch until your job is finished.  Now, stop feeling sorry for yourself, and get to work.” In a fit of frustration with Sue, I once pulled out papers to run against her for Council, and all Sue can say was, “I’ll sign your papers, I love a good argument.”  Though they disagreed often on politics, my late mother and Sue worked together on the Great America project.  Sue Lasher was one of the last of the citizen politicians.  She was also one of the most provocative, yet kind people in the city.
