Each year the Santa Clara University produces a number of plays at the Mayer Theater. This year I had the pleasure of attending two: Three Musketeers and Footloose.
I was anticipating student productions with the usual gaffes, challenged dancing, singing and choreography. Much to my surprise and delight, the productions were of a professional quality, highly entertaining and funny. Both shows had innovative choreography, good sound and surprising good sets. Above all, the acting was clean and bright, the dancers energetic and seemingly effortless. Like I said, professional quality.
The best part is that it cost a fraction of shows in San Francisco or at Broadway San Jose. You can bet I will be attending more shows at SCU.
