LaCoursiere Kicks Off Campaign for City Council Seat

Roseann LaCoursiere kicked off her campaign for City Council on June 20 with an event at the Santa Clara Elks Club. LaCoursiere, currently a Parks & Recreation Commissioner and President of Santa Clara PAL, is running for Seat 5, which is being vacated by the retirement of Council Member and former Mayor Patricia Mahan after 20 years of service.

LaCoursiere is a active in many community groups – her father was the founding president of Santa Clara PAL – and is endorsed by many current and former elected City officials including Mahan and former Mayor Eddie Souza, former Council Member Kevin Moore, current Council Members Lisa Gillmor and Debi Davis, and community leaders Rosalie Wilson and Evelyn Carmichael.

“We’re here for one reason: we love Santa Clara,” said Moore. “The difference is: we’ve put in our time. We have to make sure that Santa Clara is represented by people who put Santa Clara first – not special interests.”

“My only interest in running for City Council is serving Santa Clara,” said LaCoursiere. “I’m not a politician running for this office just to run for another and leave Santa Clara behind. What’s the agenda behind raising more money than you can spend? This isn’t a contest to see who can raise the most money. It does matter where the money comes from to run a campaign. I’m independent. I won’t be answering to any big donors.”
