New road closures start tomorrow as the city prepares for Super Bowl LX. Tasman Drive will close to vehicle and bicycle traffic between Great America Parkway and Calle Del Sol as of Jan. 28. The San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail and other roads around Levi’s Stadium will also close as the city prepares for the big game.
This is Phase 2 of the closures. The closures will remain in effect through Feb. 10. The closures are designed for the safety and security of the people visiting Levi’s Stadium for the Super Bowl, which will feature the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Similar closures were put into place in 2016 before Super Bowl L.
The closures will also impact local access to the Great America Rail Station, the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park and a few other city facilities. A temporary Capital Corridor/ACE train station parking lot is set up in the Tasman East Area so that people can park and commute during the closures. There is also ADA transportation provided to and from the temporary parking lot.
Phase 1 of the closures started on Jan. 5 and shut down parts of Stars and Stripes Drive to the public. That closure runs through Feb. 22.
On game day, Feb. 8, Phase 3 of the closures will start. Those will include closing Great America Parkway in front of Levi’s Stadium. VTA has already announced plans to run extra trains to help people get to and from the stadium.
The Bay Area Host Committee has created a series of maps on its website to help pedestrians, cyclists and drivers get to where they need to go as painlessly as possible. Visit its website at sfbayareasuperbowl.com/santa-clara-road-closures.
Of course your best plan is to avoid the area completely if you don’t need to be there.

Total BS security theater. SV Voice should ask the SCPD and DHS why this is necessary, and not accept bland answers like “for the safety of all concerned”. What does that mean? Why this perimeter? Why not further away? Why not closer? What’s the security concern? If exceptions are made for residents and business inside the perimeter, are they going to examine each person and vehicle?
Sounds like some people are going to make a lot of money in OT.
What is missing are what routes residents of that area can use to get in and out.
There’s something else missing. Super Bowl “Events” in the City of Santa Clara. I found one “Event” in Santa Clara, a “Tail Gate Party”. Most of the other “Events” occur in either San Francisco or San Jose. I have to ask “why”? Granted, hotels and motels in the city will be filled, but “Events”? Did the glowing personality of our mayor deter “Events”, or was it her hatred?
