Super Bowl LX Road Closures Start Today

Erika Towne, Press Release

The City of Santa Clara will shut down several streets and the San Tomas Aquino Creek trail as it prepares for Super Bowl LX.

Some Santa Clara streets will be shut down starting today (Jan. 5) as the city prepares for Super Bowl LX. Santa Clara has planned the closures in three phases, with the first taking effect today.

Phase 1 runs through Feb. 22. Stars and Stripes Drive will be closed to public traffic, including the ramp from Tasman Drive and the bike path along the corridor. Shuttles, parking and rideshare pickup and drop-off happening at the Great America Rail Station will be relocated to the Tasman East Area for the duration of the closure. You can find out more details about the Phase 1 closure here.

Phase 2 will start on Jan. 28 and run through Feb. 10. That’s when the city will close Tasman Drive between Great America Parkway and Calle Del Sol to through traffic. Bicycle and vehicle traffic will be detoured around the closure. The city will also close the San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail during this phase of the closures.

Phase 3 of the closures will happen on Feb. 8, also known as Super Bowl Sunday. That’s when the city will close Great America Parkway between Bunker Hill Lane and Patrick Henry Drive. The city will also close Old Ironside and Old Glory Lane.

The proposed closures are expected to impact access to the Great America Rail Station, the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park, the San Tomas Aquino Trail and other city facilities. There will be a temporary Capital Corridor/ACE train station parking lot, located in the Tasman East Area, to accommodate parking and commuter shuttle operations during the closures. ADA transportation will be provided to and from the temporary parking lot.

Santa Clara city staff say that some of these closures could change depending on permitting review and approval. All of these closures are designed for the safety and security of the people visiting Levi’s Stadium for Super Bowl LX. Similar closures occurred in the lead up to Super Bowl L in 2016.
