DPS officers arrested Gerzon Chirinos and Alfonso Inestroza and charged them with killing 24-year-old mother Kembery Chirinos-Flores.

Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers arrested two men accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Kembery Chirinos-Flores near a home on Vienna Drive on Jan. 7. According to a news release from DPS, officers arrested Alfonso Inestroza, also known as Franquin Inestroza-Martinez of Hollister, and Gerzon Chirinos, also known as Gerzon Chirinos-Munguia of Sunnyvale, on March 5. Officers also recovered a shotgun believed to be the murder weapon.

Both men are accused of shooting Chirinos-Flores inside a vehicle in the area of 1225 Vienna Dr., just a few blocks from the Fair Oaks light rail station. The two men were gone by the time officers arrived. Investigators say Chirinos-Flores died at the scene.

Investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the community following the arrests. In a news conference on March 9, Sunnyvale DPS Chief Dan Pistor called Chirinos-Flores’ death a “tragic” and “senseless act of violence.”

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will never stop pursuing justice for victims of violent crime in our community, and we remain committed to holding offenders fully accountable.”

Sunnyvale DPS worked with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Santa Clara County Special Enforcement Team, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Hollister Police Department, San Benito County Criminal Apprehension Suppression and Prevention Response Unit and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to investigation and apprehend both men.

DPS says the investigation is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Eugene Rosette at (408) 730-7110.
