In most cases when there is an accident involving a car and a pedestrian, the driver is usually the bad guy. Recently, however, I have noticed otherwise sane, intelligent and law abiding pedestrian doing something that is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. I am of course referring to the practice known as jaywalking. It is difficult to understand how some people can simply put their own lives and the lives of others at risk for the sake of convenience. When someone chooses to jaywalk instead of using the crosswalks, he or she is toying with death not just for himself or herself but for the motorists as well. For the safety of everyone on the road – pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists – I am urging every pedestrian to please use the crosswalks to cross the street and to swear off the practice of jaywalking.
