Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my strong concern regarding David Kertes ongoing push for a special election, which I view as simply a call for a “redo” of his previous lost race against Santa Clara City Council member Suds Jain. Requiring Santa Clara residents to pay an estimated $200,000 for a special election is, in my opinion, a complete waste of taxpayer money and time.
As someone who also recently lost a race—the election for Santa Clara City Clerk—I have accepted the decision of the voters, and I believe Mr. Kertes should do the same.
Having served alongside Council member Jain on the Santa Clara Planning Commission, I know him to be highly detail-oriented and deeply committed to representing the best interests of Santa Clara. As a Council member, he has consistently championed fiscal responsibility and effective housing initiatives, and he notably worked hard for the passage of Measure I to restore our beloved Swim Center.
Instead of calling for a costly special election, I believe Mr. Kertes should consider working collaboratively with Council member Jain, who has consistently been willing to meet with residents and address the issues affecting our community.
Sincerely,
Steve Kelly
