Personal Attacks On Good Public Servants

For more than a decade, I have dedicated myself to reclaiming the heart and soul of Santa Clara — our historic downtown. This has never been about politics, personal power, or grudges. It’s about restoring the community spirit that once defined this city and creating a vibrant gathering place our residents have long deserved.

So, I am deeply disappointed to see continued personal attacks against good public servants like Councilmember Suds Jain and other members of our City Council. These attacks are not only unfair — they are destructive. They distract from the real work that must be done and divide a city that should be united around progress.

Recently, I was personally targeted by David Kertes and his followers, who have chosen to pursue a campaign of negativity and intimidation. their attorney even sent me a cease-and-desist letter demanding that I erase my words and issue an apology. I’m an 83 years old Portuguese Great-Grandmother who after a lifetime of civic engagement, knows the difference between standing up for one’s convictions and bowing to bullying. I will not apologize for defending the truth or for protecting the future of Santa Clara.

Let’s be clear — this is a power grab, not a movement for good governance. It’s part of a pattern of attacks that began with Councilmember Kevin Park, then targeted our Police Chief, and now are turning toward our Sikh community and Councilmember Raj Chahal. These tactics do nothing but waste taxpayer money and sow distrust. If they succeed in forcing a special election, it will cost the city dearly — money that could instead be spent on rebuilding the very downtown that 88% of our residents have said is their #1 priority.

Our energy should not be spent tearing down our leaders. It should be spent building up our city — together. Councilmember Suds Jain represents District 5, where our downtown will rise again. He has worked diligently and honestly to serve his constituents and move Santa Clara forward. He deserves the chance to finish his term without harassment or distraction.

To those who share this vision for a better Santa Clara: stand firm, stay positive, and keep your eyes on the goal. We have waited 60 years to rebuild our downtown — we cannot let small-minded politics or personal vendettas stop us now.

Let’s reclaim our unity, our pride, and our downtown.
