The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two men killed in a wrong-way crash in Santa Clara just before noon on Aug. 26. The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 58-year-old Stephen Hinkson of San Carlos and 39-year-old Keith Demarest, whose city of residence was not released.
According to Santa Clara police, the men were in separate vehicles at the time of the crash. One was driving a GMC SUV and the other a silver Honda pickup truck. Officers have not said which man was driving which vehicle.
Officers say on Aug. 26, the GMC SUV was driving the wrong direction on northbound Montague Expressway. The GMC was reportedly going faster than the speed limit, though the actual speed of the GMC SUV is not known at this time or has not been released. The GMC collided with a silver Honda pickup truck at the Lafayette Street overpass.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the GMC SUV on its side and engulfed in flames. Both men died at the scene.
So far, officers have not said whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision.
