Sunnyvale police are still looking for whoever pulled the trigger in a shooting that landed two local men in the hospital.
Just before 4 p.m. Feb. 18, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a call of a shooting. The incident occurred on the 1000 block of Stewart Drive, near a Residence Inn by Marriott hotel, located at 750 Lakewood Drive in Sunnyvale.
Capt. Dzanh Le, the public information officer for DPS, wrote in an email that a 41-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound at the scene. Following his injury, the man fled the scene of the crime. Shortly thereafter, someone dropped the man off at the Valley Health Center, 660 Fair Oaks Ave. in Sunnyvale.
Medical professionals treated the man and discharged him shortly after. Police then arrested the man, booking him into the Santa Clara County Jail, 150 W. Hedding St. in San Jose, on charges of an unrelated probation violation.
The other shooting victim was a 39-year-old man. He suffered a gunshot wound on scene at the Stewart Drive location. Following the shooting, an ambulance transported the second victim to the same hospital.
Le wrote that the second victim remained in Valley Health Center as of Feb. 25 and is expected to survive his injuries.
Police said the shooters fled the scene of the crime prior to investigators arriving. They remain at large. No information was available about what led to the altercation.
This is the second shooting DPS has investigated this year. The first, from Jan. 7, was a homicide, where police discovered the body of a woman in her 20s slumped over in her car. Police arrested two men in the killing last week.
The two incidents took place less than three miles apart.
Sunnyvale police investigated one shooting in 2025, in late May. That shooting was a homicide. Following the murder, police tracked down the alleged culprit, a 44-year-old Sunnyvale man, in Oakland — less than a month later, on June 20.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting on Stewart Drive to call Detective G. Limon at (408) 730-7110.
