Nearly one year to the day after a deadly crash on Stevens Creek Boulevard that killed one man and sent a woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the driver of the other car has been arrested and charged with homicide and reckless driving. On Dec. 15, 2025, Santa Clara police arrested 21-year-old Kevin Alexander Alvareztostadorizo of San Jose.
On Dec. 10, 2024, Santa Clara police say the then-20-year-old Alvareztostadorizo was driving a pickup truck west on Stevens Creek Boulevard near Tyler Street, just past the Lexus dealership at a “high rate of speed.” Officers say his pickup truck collided with an SUV that was traveling east on Stevens Creek Boulevard and making a left turn from the eastbound direction into a driveway.
The Santa Clara Fire Department provided first aid at the scene and transported the man and woman to a local hospital. The 66-year-old man died at the hospital. The 65-year-old woman survived.
SCPD Traffic Investigators began a “comprehensive investigation” before deciding that Alvareztostadorizo’s speed was both “excessive and reckless” for the roadway and conditions. Investigators worked with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and obtained an arrest warrant for his arrest.
“The safety of everyone who lives, works, and travels in Santa Clara depends on people driving with care and good judgment. When that standard is abandoned, and a life is taken through reckless or dangerous driving, we will not hesitate to pursue the most serious charges the facts support. The Santa Clara Police Department is committed to pursuing these investigations relentlessly and working with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable for the harm they cause,” said Santa Clara Police Chief Cory Morgan in the press release.
Another man was in the pickup with Alvareztostadorizo when the crash occurred. He was injured but survived.
Alvareztostadorizo was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
