Two years in the making, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) plans to handle massive Super Bowl 60 crowds can be summed up in one mantra: We’re ready.
As the primary public transit agency serving Levi’s Stadium, VTA is prepared to deliver record ridership safely, smoothly, and reliably. Planning began immediately after Levi’s Stadium was named host, building on lessons learned during Super Bowl 50 ten years ago.
“We know what it takes,” said VTA General Manager and CEO Carolyn Gonot at a press conference Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. “We’ve taken every lesson from Super Bowl 50 and built an even stronger, smarter, more efficient plan for Super Bowl 60.”
Safety and Security the Top Priority
VTA is working closely with local, state, and federal partners to ensure a coordinated, region-wide security approach. Transit safety does not stop at agency boundaries.
“Super Bowl 60 is exciting — even for our own employees, who are football fans too — but our mission is clear: the safety and security of our passengers and employees is the priority,” said Aston T. Greene, VTA Chief of System Safety and Security.
A comprehensive emergency management plan for large-scale events is in place, supported by extensive training and exercises over the past year. A dedicated Emergency Operations Centerwill be activated to monitor conditions, coordinate responses, and share real-time information. VTA’s cybersecurity teams will operate around the clock to protect critical systems.
VTA continues to prioritize human trafficking awareness, a program launched ahead of Super Bowl 50. Three months ago, the agency hosted a regional conference with transit agencies, law enforcement, and survivor advocates to strengthen early recognition, reporting, and response.
The Sheriff’s Transit Patrol remains VTA’s primary law enforcement partner, with expanded coordination across agencies and private security patrols deployed systemwide. Riders will see a visible security presence on buses, trains, and at stations.
VTA emphasized that its safety and security efforts are not related to immigration enforcement. The agency does not participate in immigration enforcement activities.
Riders are encouraged to download the VTAlerts app to discreetly report concerns. If you see something, say something.
Service for Super Bowl Sunday
On Super Bowl Sunday, VTA will operate 22 additional light rail trains on top of regular service. Most will be three-car trains, each carrying approximately 450 passengers directly to the stadium.
Due to security constraints around Levi’s Stadium, VTA has adjusted its service plan. Passengers traveling from downtown San Jose or Milpitas BART will arrive and depart from Lick Mill Station on the east side of the stadium. Passengers connecting from Caltrain in Mountain View will arrive and depart from Great America Station on the west side. This post-game departure plan is expected to reduce wait times and move fans out faster.
VTA expects to transport approximately 25,000 fans, surpassing previous record ridership levels seen during the Taylor Swift concerts in 2023.
System-wide preparations include track repairs to eliminate slow zones, upgraded ticket machines and information displays, and enhanced station readiness. Up to 100 VTA ambassadors, wearing blue VTA vests, will assist riders throughout the system on game day.
Helping Riders Plan Ahead
VTA is using digital media, social media, branded signage and wayfinding to ensure fans know their transit options. Super Bowl 60 signs and banners appear at stations, bus stops, and major transit centers, including Diridon, Milpitas, and Mountain View.
Fans are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting VTA.org/SBLX, which includes service schedules, fare information, park-and-ride locations, and regional transfer details. Riders traveling from San Francisco or the East Bay via Caltrain or BART will transfer to VTA light rail.
VTA strongly recommends the Transit App for real-time arrivals, service alerts, step-by-step directions, crowding information, and mobile fare purchases. A combined Caltrain–VTA one-day pass is available for $27.50. Riders may also use Clipper cards or contactless credit or debit cards.
VTA Customer Service will be open on Super Bowl Sunday at (408) 321-2300.
With extensive preparation, coordinated security, and expanded service, VTA is ready to safely move tens of thousands of fans to the game — and home again.
