City Hires Project Manager to Oversee Related Santa Clara Development

This morning Santa Clara City Manager Deanna J. Santana announced the hiring of Dolores Montenegro, an experienced project/program manager with more than 30 years of design and construction management experience, as the City of Santa Clara’s Priority Project Manager for Related Companies‘ Related Santa Clara project.

Montenegro will oversee the City’s permitting and construction efforts on the mixed-use development situated on 240-acres adjacent to Levi’s Stadium and the Santa Clara Convention Center in north Santa Clara. Her first day on the job is Aug. 5.

“With the Related Santa Clara development expected to break ground in the coming months, Dolores’ hiring is a crucial step in ensuring the success of this public-private partnership,” said Santana. “This enormous, multi-phased project involves heavy civil and infrastructure work, and Dolores has a wide breadth of experience, both in the private and public sectors, to navigate the complexities involved to deliver on this transformational urban center development for Santa Clara.”

Montenegro studied civil engineering at Santa Clara University. She most recently worked for Kitchell as a program/senior project manager, including providing program and construction management services to the City of South San Francisco on its new $210 million community civic campus and its new $15 million fire station. She’s also worked for Vanir Construction Management and the San Jose Redevelopment Agency/Successor Agency of the City of San Jose. Montenegro is a Certified Construction Manager, Design Build Institute Associate, and LEED Green Associate as well as has an Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Safety Certification.

Among her responsibilities as the Priority Project Manager for the Related Santa Clara development, Montenegro will facilitate the Development Area Plan applications including implementing Development Agreement terms and ensuring an expedited process for various planning reviews and plan checks.

Related Santa Clara consists of 9.2 million square feet of mixed-use development with a city center of commercial office, retail/entertainment including a food market, 1,680 residential units, 700 hotel rooms and approximately 5 million square feet of corporate office space. The development will also feature new roadways and the creation of a 30-acre city park.

Construction for Related Santa Clara is anticipated to begin later this year. The first phases of the development are slated to open to the public in early 2023.
