The Central Park Library is now open longer on Saturdays. The City of Santa Clara announced earlier this month that the library will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturdays, extending the library’s Saturday hours by one hour.
The change started on Jan. 10, 2026. According to the city, it’s designed to give “the community additional access to collections, spaces and services throughout the weekend.” Library staff say that the weekend is the most popular time for people to visit, with about 1,300 people stopping by the Central Park Library every Saturday.
Events like weekly storytimes, community demonstrations and dance parties help draw patrons to the library on a weekend basis. There are also larger events like the biennial Comic-Con and the monthly book sales, which attract patrons.
The Central Park Library (2635 Homestead Avenue, Santa Clara) is open Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This is a change several years in the making. Like all libraries in the Bay Area, the Santa Clara libraries initially changed their hours in 2020, when COVID-19 was first identified in the U.S. The city began reopening its libraries to the public as health officials gained a better understanding of COVID-19.
But in 2022, as COVID-19 case counts increased and began to affect library staffing, hours were reduced again to keep the community and employees safe.
The city says that while the Central Park Library hours are expanding, the Northside and Mission Library branches’ Saturday hours will remain the same.
The Northside Library (695 Moreland Way, Santa Clara) is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.
The Mission Library (1098 Lexington Street) is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.
