Lady Bruins Basketball
The Bruins (2-0) continued a strong opening to their season with a 36-17 win over Kennedy (San Francisco) on Dec. 3. Surging to a 17-6 lead at the half, the Bruins were led by senior Stephanie Rudd with 12 points. Senior Samantha Rudd compiled 10 points, eight steals and four assists. The Bruins host their fifth annual Tip-Off Classic Dec. 11-14.

Wilcox Girls Basketball Opens Season With Fremont Tournament Championship
The Lady Chargers (3-0) opened their season by claiming the Fremont tournament championship in dominating fashion. The Chargers opened with a 62-27 win over The King’s Academy on Dec. 3 then defeated Fremont 51-17 on Dec. 4. The Chargers then defeated Saratoga (2-1) 61-31 in the championship finals on Dec. 5. Junior D’Airrien Jackson led the Chargers with 19 points in the Saratoga win with senior Joeseta Fatuesi adding 17 points and senior Jessica King compiling 11 points. Jackson led the Chargers with 14 points in the Fremont win with Fatuesi scoring 14 in the King’s Academy win with Jackson and senior Caitlin Brown each adding 12 points and King adding 11. The Chargers host Piedmont Hills on Dec. 17.

Wilcox Boys Basketball Opens Season With James Lick Tournament Championship
The Chargers (3-0) opened their season at the James Lick tournament, claiming the tournament championship. The Chargers opened the tournament with a 58-29 win over Hill and followed with a 57-38 win over Sobrato on Dec. 5. The Chargers then bested St. Francis 67-55 in the tournament championship. The Chargers host Summit Prep on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.

Wilcox Girls Soccer Opens Season With Win, Tie and Loss
The Lady Chargers (1-1-1) opened their season with a 2-0 win against Pinewood on Dec. 3 then battled to a 1-1 tie against Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 5. The Chargers were then defeated 1-0 by Willow Glen on Dec. 7.

Wilcox Boys Soccer Competes in Homestead Christmas Cup
After opening the season with a 1-0 loss at Saratoga on Dec. 4, the Chargers (2-1) claimed two wins in the Homestead Christmas Cup. The Chargers defeated Hillsdale 3-1 and North Monterey County on Dec. 7.

St. Lawrence Boys Basketball Wins
The Celtics opened the season with a 49-36 win over Kehillah on Dec. 3. Senior Zach San Diego led the team with 22 points in the win. The boys were victorious over Waldorf on Dec. 5 (see game of the week) and host Summit Prep on Dec. 10 (after press time).

St. Lawrence Girls Basketball Opens Season with Two Losses
St. Lawrence Academy opened its season with a 37-45 loss to Kehillah on Dec. 3 and 37-39 loss to Waldorf on Dec. 5. Senior Jordan Gips led the team both nights, scoring 23 points against Kehillah and 25 points (including four three pointers) against Waldorf. The Celtics host Summit Prep on Dec. 10 (after press time).

Mission Girls Basketball Loses Twice
The Mission Lady Saints (4-6) were defeated twice in the Contra Costa Classic. The Saints were defeated 72-66 by Siskiyous on Dec. 5 and 80-77 by Los Medanos on Dec. 6. Candace Stephens led the Saints with 17 points against Siskiyous with Court Blackett-Roache adding 15 and Gabrielle Ludwig leading the team with 17 rebounds. Jolana Jordan led the Saints with 23 points in the Los Medanos game while Ludwig scoring 21 and compiling 14 rebounds and Stephens scoring 20.

Santa Clara University Men’s Basketball Wins, Loses
The Broncos beat California State University Bakersfield 60-42 on Dec. 5, but lost to Cal Poly 64-53 on Dec. 7. Senior Evan Roquemore scored 12 points in the win and moved to a tie with NBA player Steve Nash for number two on the Broncos’ career assists list. Roquemore and junior Brandon Clark each had 12 points in the loss to Cal Poly. SCU hosts Radford Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball Loses
Santa Clara lost 69-49 to Fresno State University on Dec. 8. Junior Nici Gilday led the offense with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals, followed by freshman Jo Paine with 10 points and three rebounds. SCU plays at Utah Valley on Dec. 14.
